Photography wasn’t Zach Romero’s first love; that would be skateboarding. But the balance, fluidity, and single-minded focus required for keeping atop a deck are the same skills Zach calls upon for capturing memorable images. And it was a skateboarding trip that first brought him to the Bay Area in his late teens, sowing the seeds of fondness for this place that would only grow stronger over the years. By this time he had already been taking photos for a few years and broadened his scope to include video production and editing while studying technical communications at the Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Soon after relocating to Oakland in January of 2011, Zach met Jay Casio of RNB Millionaires, first becoming co-workers, then friends, and eventually roommates. Since every great party needs to be remembered, when Trill Team 6 was formed Zach became the de facto photographer for Sick Sad World, RNB Millionaires, and pretty much every event a TT6 DJ was spinning at. He also took the streets of his now beloved new hometown, looking for stories among the freeways and abandoned buildings. Whether it’s a glowing nighttime cityscape or a frenzied crowd united in a groove, Zach’s photos don’t just tell you a story. They draw you into a moment, making you wonder what was just said, and what’s going to happen next.
